Hello everyone,
First of all, I would like to apologize for the amount of time it has taken to get this online review up. I have been really busy the last few months, though I wish that had not been the case.
Now with that out of the way, I am here today to tell you about an amazing product I recently had the pleasure of using. The device is called ‘The Powermat Portable’
As a technologist, I have a lot of portable devices in which I have to charge on a daily basis such as my PSP, DS Lite, iPod Touch, Iphone, etc. When you think about it, that’s a lot of wires. All of these devices take up unnecessary space in my power bar as well as my USB ports which becomes a real hassle. However, with the introduction of the Powermat Wireless Charging unit, I no longer have to battle through a mass of wires or make the ultimate decision of which device to charge first, and which is left cold and lonely.
Using the Powermat wireless charging unit is quite simple. All it takes is three easy steps and my device (and it could be yours too!) is ready to go.
The first step is connecting a device of your choice to the universal charger (which supports various popular devices such as the Sony PSP, Apple Iphone/iPod Touch, Nintendo DS Lite/Dsi, as well as stuff like Samsung, LG and Micro USB.) All the tips are connected to the Power Cube by way of a mini USB. There is also a USB located on the back of the Power Mat for easy charging of another device.
The second step is to place your selected device atop the Powermat. You’ll hear a rather satisfying ‘ding’ upon when the charge starts, Simple, no?
The third and final step is the easiest. Just sit back, go make a sandwich and wait for your device to charge!
The Charging Mat also turns itself off when the devices batteries are at maximum charge. The mat will re-activate if it detects power drainage on any one of the devices. There are two buttons near the USB ports that allow you adjust the volume of the bell-like sound the mat will emit, and white LED lights that tell you which of the three sections of the charging mat are in use.
There are some pre-designed cases that Powermat offers for the Iphone, iPod Touch, DS Lite and the Blackberry. Personally, I only had the chance to try out the Iphone case, and found that it did the job very nicely. The Powermat charged most of the devices I tested it with faster than if I had connected it to my PC or to an actual power outlet. The Power Cube worked effectively and efficiently for all the devices that I tested with it, and I found no problems.
Now, down to the business end here. There are two models of the Powermat currently available; Powermat Home & Office Mat and the Powermat Portable, which is the model that I received for review. The device itself includes the universal power cube, with all eight tips, a carrying case and a sleek power adapter that packs up for easy storage.
My only problem, slight as it may be, was that I found that not all the tips could fit inside the Power Cubes Tip Storage container. Of course, that’s just nitpicking at an otherwise great and worthwhile product. You’d be insane not to own one of these.
My overall rating for this product is 4.5 out of 5. I highly recommend it to anyone who faces the same challenges I do everyday just trying to charge my daily devices.
Till next time this is RavenD signing Off,
